WELCOME TO ENTERPRENEURSHIP
This course is designed to introduce students in Health Professional Programmes to processes involved in entrepreneurship to empower them for being capable of self-employment within their professions. The course prepares the students in developing their knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to respond to the demands of a rapidly changing world and build on a universal philosophy of self-reliance and resourcefulness.
The course explores entrepreneurial management, challenges and opportunities in the business environment. It addresses critical issues such as innovation versus inventions, the creation of a successful business plan, the importance of continuing entrepreneurial personal development, the identification of business opportunities and threats, and understanding the impact of continuous innovation on business sustainability
At the end of the course, students will be able to:
1) Describe how to evaluate the business environment and identify a viable business opportunity
2) Outline the procedures to be followed when starting a business
3) Explain the factors liable to affect the success of a business
4) Participate in hands-on entrepreneurial skills develop business plan.
5) Discuss entrepreneur’s contribution to National Development.

MODULE SUMMARY
The entrepreneurship is a 7 weeks, two-credit unit module prepared for Year one (1) semester one (1) students.
The aim of this course is to prepare the students in developing their knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to respond to the demands of a rapidly changing world and build on a universal philosophy of self-reliance and resourcefulness.

Entrepreneurship is a process of identifying viable business opportunities and implementing them through creativity and innovativeness. An entrepreneur is someone who identifies a viable business opportunity and undertakes the risks of investing time and resources to make sure that the idea succeeds. Creativity is the concept of generating ideas as well as discovering the existing opportunities that can be developed into successful marketable business ventures in terms of goods and services. Innovation is a process that involves idea selection and development through harnessing creative energy in order to convert ideas into more efficient products, services and process.

Understand the role of personal savings and portfolio investment in National Economic Development, Factors liable to affect the success of a business, Policy Change in product/Service/Technology; Coping with competition, Time Management, Leadership styles/image.
When people pass through the creativity stage they become inventors and not innovators. Invention is the creation of something new while innovation is the transformation of an idea into a useful application. However for an idea to have value it must be proved useful and marketable and to achieve either status, the idea must be developed through the innovation process.
