  SITUATIONAL ANALYSIS OF THE NGO SECTOR

  
  

  1.0       Introduction

  NGOs are increasingly recognized by governments everywhere as important players in a country’s social, economic, political and intellectual development. NGO activities help to mobilize, sensitize, consult and aggregate citizen interest and action. NGOs can fulfill these roles at three different levels namely: at agenda setting, at policy development; and at policy implementation, monitoring, evaluation and ensuring transparency and accountability in public office. NGOs, as Non-State actors are, therefore, potent and legitimate partners’ to governments in nation building.
