The course aims at equipping students with the ability to analyze texts beyond the level of the sentence, typically but not necessarily, in their situational contexts. Through exposure to a battery of communication occurrences, both spoken and written, in conformity with specifiable standards of textuality, students are able to appreciate how speakers and writers structure the language they use. The exposure to a range of text types also enables students to explore the potential for the application of text-linguistic theories and models to other disciplines.
